Gutenprint doesn't actually contain a specific driver for it either, but I found that the LaserJet III driver works sufficiently well for my needs. "I have an HP LaserJet 1100 and couldn't find a driver for it on the HP site. The virtues of Gutenprint are extolled in this VersionTracker poster's comment: Certain quality choices (in particular Super Photo and Ultra Photo) were not available in 5.0.0-rc3.

  • The Epson driver offers the same quality choices as 5.0.0-rc2 for certain new printers such as the R800, R1800, and R2400.
  • This improves printing speed with the default settings in certain cases and in some cases improves print quality. bidirectional mode more intelligently on new printers that are capable of producing excellent quality in bidirectional mode at high resolutions.
  • The Epson driver now chooses unidirectional vs.

This was not an issue with the enhanced Print plugin for the GIMP.

  • The PPD file parameter is now always accessible when using the Postscript driver in third party Gutenprint-enabled applications.
  • In 5.0.0-rc3, this was handled incorrectly in locales that do not use the decimal point (".") for separating fractions from integers.

The Postscript driver now handles PPD files with non-integer imageable areas correctly in all locales (the PPD files certain HP inkjet printers using the HPIJS driver have non-integer imageable areas for some paper sizes).

  • A new user's manual has been added in doc/gutenprint-users-manual.odt (ODF format) and doc/gutenprint-users-manual.pdf, replacing the old manual that was based on Gimp-Print 4.2 (bug 1260142).
  • Previously it did not print any page except the first page of a document, or printed all other pages with possibly incorrect settings (bug 1501816).
  • The Ghostscript driver used with Foomatic now prints all pages of a document correctly.
  • The symptoms are that when printing certain kinds of material on certain printers, the print is positioned incorrectly on the page (too far to the right and too far down the page).
  • A serious problem with margins when printing from CUPS in some cases was introduced in Gutenprint 5.0.0-rc3.

Hope this helps.Gutenprint 5.0.0 - a significant update to the set of open-source print drivers that enable a number of natively unsupported printers under Mac OS X - has been released. Bold white foreground lines are packages that are currently installed and not changed and dim white are un-installed ones available but not installed. Red background lines are problems/warnings (but only if on something that needs to be installed or you want installed) Green lines are packages to be installed Purple lines are packages to be uninstalled and Cyan lines are packages (on the preview tab) that will be updated (on other tabs there will be a purple/green pair of lines). Use - t to access the menu and don't forget to do a - t U to update the package list (aptitude and apt-get are two separate utilities and each needs to have it's lists updated to keep their idea of what packages are around up to date.) Here is a capture of the information for that package on my Debian (Wheezy) PC (not a Pi!):Īny line in an aptitude tab beginning with - can be expended by selecting that line (with / arrows) and hitting and -\ lines collapsed in the same way. If that seems to be the case (the previous paragraph did not solve your problem) try running sudo aptitude - without any arguments aptitude runs as a text-mode application and it can show you the interrelation between packages and if there is a problem it offers an interactive means to fix things. The problem you are experiencing is that the extra package you have requested is later than the ones already installed but apt-get does not know (without running the "update" instruction) that new versions for all the interconnected packages have become available.!įailing that it may be that (temporarily) one or more packages have not been updated on the servers so that there is a mix of updated and un-updated both on the server and you have got a mix of both.

You have just done a: sudo apt-get update first haven't you (things can change on a daily basis) then try the sudo apt-get install cups-driver-gutenprint again. I would check that you really have an up-to-date list of packages available from the servers that you are using.
